BAKTRIA, Indo-Greek Kingdom. Philoxenos, circa 125-110 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 9.81 g, 11 h), Indian standard, uncertain mint in Paropamisadai or Gandhara. BAΣIΛEΩΣ ANIKHTOΥ / ΦIΛOΞENOY Diademed and draped bust of Philoxenos to right, wearing crested Macedonian helmet adorned with bull's horn and ear. Rev. 'Maharajasa apadihatasa Philasinasa' ('of the Great King Philoxenos the Unconquered' in Karoshti) Philoxenos, helmeted and in military attire, on horseback to right; below and to lower right, Σ and monogram. Bopearachchi Série 5B. HGC 12, 268. MIG Type 340c. SNG ANS 1182. Rare. A lovely example, attractively toned and with a fine portrait. A few faint scratches and very minor roughness on the reverse, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
